Visiting & Safety
Be prepared:
Gaddings Dam is high and exposed. It’s often windy and can feel cold even when the valley is warm.
Check the weather forecast
Bring layers and waterproofs even in summer
There’s no shade, so bring sun protection
Footwear
The route up from the Shepherd’s Rest is well-used, but steep in places.
Hiking boots are strongly recommended
The descent can be slippery — many people find it easier on the grass beside the path
Barbecues & fires
Strictly NO barbecues or fires at any time.

The Shepherd’s Rest is a popular place to rest after the walk. Please don’t park in the pub car park, as it causes real problems for the landlord. Use roadside parking considerately. Do not park on the double yellow lines.
